a book review by IƱak, Feli, Angie, Mati and Dani
In sixth form we are reading A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England, in 1812 and moved to London with his family when he was a baby. His father, John Dickens, was very poor so he couldn’t support his eight children and his wife. After leaving school he started working in a shoe polish factory but his father was sent to prison as a debtor. Later, he started writing for a newspaper.
He soon became famous for the way his books reflected poverty and suffering.
A Tale of Two Cities is set at the time of the French Revolution. Two men were in love with the same woman. These two men looked very alike. The woman’s name was Lucie and she thought that her father had disappeared. But then she discovered that he had been a prisoner at the Bastille. The name of Lucie’s father was Dr. Manette. He suffered the consequences of his stay in prison.
We all think that this book is very enjoyable and makes you want to continue reading it.
