by Mati (owr own international soccer expert!)

One of our reporters, Mati, declared fan and obvious expert in international soccer games, shares his view on what the Euro Cup 2008 has left us, while we eagerly expect the final match to be played tomorrow, Sunday 29th

The Euro Cup that is being played in Switzerland and Austria is an interesting tournament, not only because it’s the oldest international football competition but also because many strange, particular and amazing things have taken place.
The strangest event was at the beginning of the eliminatory stage when England (one of the most powerful teams of the world) couldn’t take part in the Euro Cup. It was really surprising, as England has very good players like Rooney, Owen, Beckahm, Lampard and Gerrard.
Holland, a powerful team which hasn’t had a great performance in many years, did something incredible on the Euro cup: they defeated France (a very good team) 4-1 and then, in the following match, they defeated Italy (a strong candidate to win The Euro Cup) 3-0. But then, in the quarterfinals, they lost against Russia. It was a surprising match; the goals were scored in the extra time. Russia won the second and third matches of The Euro Cup. They have two magnificent players: Arshavin and Pavlyuchenko. In the semifinals, they lost 3-0 against Spain who had a brilliant performance in the whole tournament and reached the finals.
This is the Euro Cup for Spain. They won their group 4-1 against Russia, then they managed to succeed in a very difficult match where David Villa (the man who scored more goals in the Euro Cup) got injured and so he won’t be able to play the final match against Germany. He was a hero when he scored a goal in the 93rd minute and so they won with alternate players 2-1 versus Greece. Then, in the quarterfinals they defeated Italy in the penalty kick, with Iker Casillas, the goalkeeper, as the star. They defeated Russia 3-0 in the semifinals.
The final match hasn’t been played yet and we are expecting it with great anxiety.
